Description: Professor Paul Bloom takes students on a guided tour of Psychology. You’ll gain a complete and in-depth overview of everything there is to know about the scientific study of thought and behavior.
Topics covered in the course include communication, learning, memory, perception, decision-making, persuasion, religion, art, dreams, love, hunger, and gender.
Interesting sub-topics include why men and women are so different; what your dreams mean; what it’s like to be a baby; the nature of mental illness; the relationship between language and thought; human instincts and morality; the effects of illness and injury on the brain, and a whole lot more.
There are 22 lectures in total (including two guest lectures). Each lecture lasts from between 45 minutes to an hour. There’s a midterm exam and then a final exam at the end of the course.
Requirements include; the submission of short reading responses, one detailed book review; experimental participation; and exams.
This course was recorded in 2007 and was taught on campus at Yale.
